Tennis At Shiloh (TAS) is an outreach program of the Henry C. Gregory, III Family Life Center at Shiloh Baptist Church in Washington, DC. Organized in April 1976 by eighteen members, membership grew to over 100 members in the early 1980’s.
Members initiated the Shiloh Open in 1977, now one of the most well known USTA sanctioned community tournaments in the Washington Metropolitan area. A “lessons for free” youth program was instituted soon after. Since 1980 TAS has provided free lessons, free rackets, snacks and games for neighborhood youngsters and Shiloh families.
Over the years its programs have been visited by vip’s including tennis greats, Arthur Ashe and Zina Garrison, Mayor Marion Barry, basketball stars, Earl Monroe and Ric Mahorn, radio personality, Donnie Simpson, television anchor, Jim Vance, and councilpersons, Kathy Patterson, and Jim Graham.
Tennis At Shiloh is a member of the American Tennis Association (ATA) and the United States Tennis Association (USTA). TAS is also a member of the Washington Tennis Association (WTA) and the Mid-Eastern Tennis Association (META).
